What has become of society?

by Whiskey2DIS
In response to all comments complaining about Shakespearean language or writing, I am ashamed. First of all, Romeo and Juliet IS a play. Anyone who doesn't know that is obviously uneducated in classic literature. Second, William Shakespeare lived in England in the late 1500's to early 1600's, under the rule of Queen Elizabeth I and King James. Take this into consideration when reading this phenomenal play. OF COURSE THE LANGUAGE WILL BE DIFFERENT FROM TODAY!!!!!! It may be a slightly challenging read, but at the time it was written, people understood this perfectly. If you only read the first couple of pages, you aren't going to become used to the language. The more you read, the more you will understand, not just as far as language, but about life as well. Elie Wiesel said "I write to understand as much as to be understood." If he writes to understand, would it make sense that one should read to understand? What has become of society that we can't accept Shakespeare as one of the most brilliant writers of all time? Learn yourselves in the classics. Romeo and Juliet is one of thousands, and all that I have read are wonderfully written, and enjoyable. The works of such authors as William Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorn, Jane Austen, S.E. Hinton, John Steinbeck, Henry David Thorough, and so many others are amazing books, poems, plays, etc. Read, and you will learn.

As for this particular play, it is one of my favorites. Start by reading or rereading this timeless classic, and then read others. Shakespeare is brilliant, as are all the above mentioned authors, and I hope you start to realize that with Romeo and Juliet.
